Have you ever noticed that we are always planning for the future? From the moment, we can speak as children we begin to prepare for kindergarten. Once we finish kindergarten, we prepare for grade school and high school. We plan our summer vacations, our major in college, our career, and our retirement. Yet, so few people ever stop to prepare themselves for eternity.
Eternity is a long time, friend! In fact, you will be dead much longer than you are alive. Common sense tells us that we ought to prepare our souls to meet God. Your appointment with death could be today. Are you ready?
We have all sinned. More specifically, that means that we have broken the laws of God. Have you ever lied? Stolen anything regardless of value? Has God always had first place in your heart and life? Have you always honored your parents, obeying them without question? Have you ever looked at the opposite sex with lust in your heart? Have you ever coveted something that wasn’t yours?
Our sin demands a penalty. The Judge of the Universe must be just in punishing lawbreakers. The penalty for our sin is death (Rom. 6:23).
This is what makes Jesus Christ so significant. He lived a sinless life and died on a cross as an innocent man in order to satisfy the justice of God for our sin. Don’t you see? He was paying your penalty for your sin!
